From Career Break to Executive Director
When Humaira moved to Canada after getting married, she left behind a senior IT position and four university degrees. Soon after, she chose to stay home with her first child — and then a second, a third, and a fourth followed.
For twelve years, she raised her four children full-time, building small projects and community work on the side that quietly kept her skills and confidence alive. When she was ready to return to the workforce, she did it on her own terms: she changed careers entirely, and was offered a position as Executive Director of an organization the very first time she was hired after over a decade at home.
Today, Humaira practices law, leads Healthy Muslim Families — a nonprofit she founded to support families through culturally responsive programs — and wrote Empowered Steps: A Muslim Woman’s Guide to Career Success to walk other women through the same path.
